Stupid question that I probably should know the answer to... can we post items up for auction before March 1st, even if the auction doesn't open until then?

Yes, you can! Chrys remimded me of the fact that this is unclear, but I haven't time to post about it.

Would offering something like a program from the Cinderella pantomime in Preston be ok? (Not really TW but still GDL-related.) And in case of offering material goods, should sellers state that they're paying for postage themselves or is this already clear to everyone?

Everything is okay, TW-related or not. So yes please!
As for material goods, sellers paying for postage is default.

Sorry for bothering you again.
"closing: date of closing (choose from the list of tags)"

Probably a stupid question, I know but ... Can it be that only the tags are showing up in the list of tags (left hand side of the community, also on LJ posting applications like Semagic) that have been used before? Because even though the profile page says that you have 62 tags I can only see the four you've used in your info and guideline posts. (They say on the LJ tag help page: "community maintainers must add new tags to entries before members can see or use them for entries")

Re: Sorry for bothering you again.
Not a bother at all!
Sorry, it's my mistake - I forgot about this stypid LJ thing.
Can you see them now?

Yes! All the closing date tags are visible now, also the challenge tags, the bidding tags and the offered tags. :-D

Hmm ... it looks as if members can't create new tags (like "fandom: Torchwood" or "seller: cinderblock42"). I added the "seller: cinderblock42" one to my post but it doesn't show up. Or do they need too get approved first?

I approved the message (one of them). I supposeit's because of added tags. Will tweak the controls to make it able to post new tags without approving by mods, if possible :)

Thank you! And sorry for asking so many questions. (Posting outside my own LJ always makes me extremely nervous.)

No problem at all! I'm the same with posting anywhere except for my own small haven :)

I wasn't able to add "seller: bethb" to my offer, either!

Just found out how to edit the tags: post you entry only using the existing tags, then view your entry at the community page and click on "Edit tags" - you can add tags from the list and create new ones, too. :-)

Erm. Me again. (Sorry.) I think the second and third bidder here might be bidding the wrong way - they're supposed to reply to the previous bid, not to the main post, right? Otherwise the previous bidder won't know that they've been outbid?

Quick question what time does the bidding end on items? For instance if the closing date is March 8th what time is the last bid acceptable. I'm guessing 11:59pm or
12midnight GMT but want to be safe. Thanks!

BTW looks like the last bid for the Cinderella panto program has not been done as a reply to the previous bid.

Could you declare a winning bidder for this auction? (I think it might be put_that_away with either the 23:59 or the 23:54 bid. Rather stupid question: Should I have stayed awake and close the auction at 0:00? Also, do we close our auctions ourselves, or do the mods do that?)

Hiya. Me again. I could really use some help with the closed auction - I'd like to send the program and leaflet out asap. Could you let me know what I need to do next?

Hello cinderblock42,

If your auction close the 9th March, the winner is the one who made a bill before 00:00 so yup the offer at 11:59 pm is the good one.

So you can contact the winner to know the address of shipping but the money should be sent to CIN before shipping your programme.

As to close the bid, just put an Edit in your post and mention the bid is close.

I will let Svollga do the rest.

Hope that answer your question :)

Reference to rules auction:

8. Once the auction closes, the winner will be contacted via PM to confirm the bid and to request shipping details, if applicable.

9. The winner will be asked to make a donation in the amount of the winning bid to the JustGiving page Ianto Jones for Children in Need, including in the comment field the LJ name they used for bidding and the item code(s). After that, the winner will be asked to post a comment in the thread of the item to notify the seller and the mods that the donation is made.
Example:
Donation by {lj username} for item {item code}
{Additional message of your choice - optional}

10. Once the winner has made the donation, the item will be (as applicable):
- started to be worked on, to be delivered to the winner by the stated deadline via agreed means
- e-mailed or sent via other means by mutual agreement between the seller and the winner
- shipped to the address provided
